Healthcare for Seniors isn’t Good Enough

Healthcare for seniors isn’t good enough. This website is my small voice for change.

In a previous post I talked a little bit about my roots. I wasn’t sure that was a good thing to talk about but I received a message from my good friend and mentor, Cora. She said:

“You are true to the values you were raised with.”

This encourages me to share another short video. It’s about what shaped me and the path I took. 50 years later I’m still on that path: Make healthcare better.

Has healthcare improved overall?

In your opinion, has healthcare improved overall?

Healthcare has changed quite a bit in the last 50 years. When a patient is hospitalized, a different doctor provides care. Care is more costly and more technical. On the other hand, life expectancy has increased. People with heart disease live longer.

What are your thoughts? Please share your opinion by voting in the poll. Also, I’d like your thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. I get to see more specialists. On the other hand, coordination via my primary care physician and specialists is an on-off affair.

  2. I think it is better because we are learning more about how to look at the whole person within their environment. Recent changes to the payment structures have been used by some wonderful doctors, like my own PCP, to really up their came in this respect.

However, as a society, we are not teaching people that healthcare starts at home. Our experience with COVID anti-vaxxers has shown that people simply do not understand how science works, as well as how our care systems work/don’t work. This has now become a polarizing focal point within our society – with deadly consequences.

  3. My wife and I went through a very tough period as my mother aged. We found little support, and the constant visits to ER room drained us even though my mother did remarkably well considering she was in her 99th year…She eventually passed away in her sleep six weeks short of the century mark. She was a remarkable woman.

I feel very blessed to have the medical coverage we have which is through the companies we worked for. We have been with the Kaiser system for the past 30 plus years, and have only praise for the care and dedication shown by their doctors and nurses in all fields. Having said that, I think much can be done to improve Obama Care which in and of itself has seen a vast improvement in healthcare in this country. That is not to say that things couldn’t be better, especially from the aspect of cost. The difference in medical costs vary far too much from one service to the next…and from one hospital to the next… and that’s simply not good enough. And then there’s the issue of the cost of medications, which if you don’t have decent insurance will bleed your finances.

  4. About healthcare today I think we are blessed with more advanced methods of care and technology but more stress on providers and government required reporting.
